I consider Sunday a rest day, meaning spending time with family, enjoying the weather, whether it's good or bad, and mainly a time for rejuvenation. We all need rest.
Sunday is defined as the first day of the week and is observed as a day of rest by many Christians. However, you don't have to be Christian to observe Sunday. As I said, rest is important. We need that one day of rest every week away from jobs and all the things that we must do to live. Most of us already have weekends off by default, so we should use it and enjoy it. During my youth, I recall a time when television was rather uneventful, and we were limited to a single channel. The majority of programs consisted of musical performances by orchestras or symphonies, which played throughout the day, along with perplexing political shows. And how much can you understand when you're only seven years old?
That was Europe, and here in North America, all I see is football and golf widely televised. So, you either watch if you're a sports fan, or you don't watch if you're not - then you go shopping. This brings us to another thing, in Europe where I grew up, there was no shopping on Sundays. The most you got was ice cream booths or small bazaars beside the church, and restaurants. Here in Canada, or in North America, it's not like that. Most of us go shopping. The thing is that we have that opportunity and I'm not sure what would happen without it.
We survived a blackout, it created some chaos, and I'm very sure that we would slowly adapt ourselves if it lasted longer. Are you ready to rest now? ~ Anna
