Without too much explanation. Leaves contain a green pigment called chlorophyll. A pigment is a substance that absorbs light. The chlorophyll in the leaves absorbs all wavelengths of visible light except green. The green is reflected and detected by the eye; thus, we see green leaves.
So what happens in the fall when the leaves are red and yellow? This is another story, good for the fall. To close the note, the green colour has a calming effect, and it is the most restful colour to the eye. Maybe this is why we enjoy walking in the forest.
