Moon Photography: July 30, 2007 Moon Over Aurora

The full moon was yesterday, and the time for eating moon cookies is on the horizon. As the story continues, what else do we know about the moon?

Let's talk about the surface of the moon and its surroundings. The Moon has no atmosphere. The surface of the Moon is simply white dust with craters that resulted from colliding meteorites in its early times. So what are the large dark patches on the Moon? These are called seas, because once people believed that they were seas; however, they are lava flows from the ancient volcanoes.
