The Great Listener Deer

He is listening, be careful what you are whispering then. This photo is a follow-up to the previous post of a couple of deer. I was fortunate to take this photo and fit it into the camera window completely, no cropping was necessary.

This way, much more detail can be seen.
Well, I will have to tell you that only at the zoo was I able to get these nice shots. In real life, they come along unexpectedly, so guess what - the camera is usually not available. And if they are expected, they are usually between the woods and focusing is sometimes impossible.

Woods or no woods, the deer is still real, and this time he is listening or if you are looking from a different angle - maybe he is meditating.

Nice shot Anna. Never saw a deer smiling before, except as your driving at night and come across one on the side of the road, scaring you because you didn't expect it to be there ... and it knows it scared you.

This guy, (or girl?) looks so content, about to fall asleep standing up! Deer seem so easy to adjust to humans, but I am not sure that is always a good thing.

Recently while hiking, we have come across several deer. They always bolt off as soon as we are close enough to seem a threat. Usually before we can get even within several hundred feet.

On the other hand, we have deer that live in town and are really pests. Not only do they eat flowers and shrubs on peoples front yards, they can be quite bold. Someone I know came out on their front porch one morning to get the newspaper and there were 3 deer crowded on eating her flowers out of the pots by the front door. The deer had to climb 10 or 12 steps and turn a corner to get up on the porch. She tried to shoo them away, but they did not want to leave!

Another person in the same neighborhood had a male deer break the glass on the door to their back deck. I was told it was eating potted plants or flowers and saw its reflection in the glass and tried to butt the competition.

We live more in the country, and for some reason don't have the deer so close. But, we get coyotes at night. They come through the fields to within a short distance of the house. Has anyone ever heard a pack of them close up at night. It is a very loud and eerie sound.

He looks like he is smiling! I love his closed eyes - great job, Anna!
wow Anna, He (or she) is happily smiling. I really like this awesome photo because your deer naturally smiles. You capture real good expression on his face. It's not easy to get the nice shot like this :)

Hi Anna;

They seem to be such dainty delicate ballerinas! I love the different “grain” of fur on top of the head. I love the whiskers, the “clever” ears, and those coy eyes! What a pleasure to spend some times with such animals, and then share them with others!

Only a person that has attempted to take such a photo can appreciate how challenging it can be, animals are not typically cooperative “models”…either in the zoo or wild.

Thanks Bob, and I always thought that I had imagination, but you too, lol. Thanks again, Anna :)

Hey Susanne, so you probably had enough of me last night, lol. Thanks for our comments as always, and don't you worry you will not get rid of me because of the palms, lol. Thanks again. Anna :)

JD thank you for visiting and thank you for your comments. I used have this job that required me to drive 60 km one way, so on the way home I used to take this country road, and I saw lot of deer, and one day I had this one deer jump front of my car but enough distance so I did not hit him, however, he or she was so graceful, the jumps were just perfect, and he/she made the fence too and disappear in the darkness of the corn fields. Thanks again for your comment, Anna :)

Will I want to live where you live. Oh deer, I know that may be they are pests for some people, but for me now the grass is looking greener over your country living style, lol. I am so surprised about deer being so bold. I guess when they are used to humans, and nothing is done, they become family, lol. The coyotes is a different story, I will be paranoid to live close by and hear them - an electric fence at this point would be very useful. Will thanks for your comments, as always, Anna :)

chanelofhealing, thank you for your comments, you are correct we will never know what they are thinking, but one can always imagine. Take your time with the award, I am not going anywhere. BTW been to your blog few times already, just been silently reading and absorbing and collecting my thoughts, same with other bloggers. Just sometimes I find that if it is something out of my knowledge range or quite interesting, I need few days to absorb, thanks again. Anna :)

digitalshuttermania, thank you very much for your kind comment. You are right it isn't really easy to do that, that is why I shoot at the object usually hundred times so I get this one nice photo - and deer didn't mind since the shooting was harmless. Anna :)

Hi Livingsworld, I don't know how to thank you for such a lovely comment, you just described so much detail on the simple photo like that, something I wouldn't be able to do, but I am learning, and learning from you, and thanks, and thanks for appreciating my work, I tell you holding 100-400mm lens without tripod isn't that easy, lol, but I am stronger now, Anna :)

Anna - The answer is in Southern Oregon. Mystery solved! Actually you can read all the details of my strange trip on my "about" page.

You are welcome on the comments. Actually one of the best things about your site is all the people who comment and are repeat visitors.

I appreciate all your comments on my site as well. You are still the top commentator at 41, although JD is not too far behind. I have a lot of people with one or two comments. I value them all though.

cecyl - brittany - france thanks for your visit, and comment. My rule is lets get to know each other, and start visiting each other' blog on regular basis, and see if we can find commonality. Links don't really benefit me personally, they probably benfit for search engine, but that's not what I am looking for. Will bookmark you, your blog is very nice too, nice photography, just not sure if I can communicate in French, lol, but then I like photos. Hope it is okay with you. Thanks, Anna :)

Hey Anna,

I am glad you liked it :). I just looked at that sweet deer with his eyes closed and I immediately saw him meditating...letting the breath of life in his nostrils...

Anyway, I'd like to tell you that I am going to accept your suggestion, and make use of Google's follow-up comments section, and initiate a conversation with people who comment on my blog :).

Cheers

Cute. Thank you for your visit and nice comments. I see you don't have a regular template???? And yes I changed my template. For a larger view of your photos you have to change te size by hand, but first of all there must be enough space to fitt in. How much can you do know about HTML???????? Did you make your own template???? Change the "main wrapper size into 66o pixels but you have to change the outer wrapper also. For example: Main is now 500, change to 660 is 160 more. The outer wrapper needs 160 px more too. If you can do this the rest is easy to do. Don't forget to save you old template before you do anything. I hope you understand this, maybe you can try it out with a TESTBLOG. After this we go farther.
