Please Tell Me I Am Beautiful, Says the Ostrich

This big bird, the Ostrich from the Toronto Zoo in Scarborough, Ontario, was really warming up to us. I was looking for a turkey photo for Will Taft's previous post, but I was unsuccessful. I know I have it, but I think it must be on the film camera. Last year, I missed the photo opportunity for the wild turkeys and was not sure if the turkey vultures would fit into the Thanksgiving theme. However, I came across this photo, which I forgot about. I'm not sure what got into this bird, but he was just dancing around and fluffing in front of us. One photo cannot really describe the experience; however, this one photo may give you an idea.
On the other hand, my blogging has slowed down in the past couple of weeks. I've just been really busy with the 'real' job, itching to take off for a while but unable to escape as usual. However, I'm hoping to get back to blogging soon and clean up that crazy backlog I have.

Hi Anna;

Great image!

I have been close up to ostriches with no fence between us and they can be pretty intimating for a bird. I had one try to peck a camera zoom lens out of my hand!

On the other hand they taste great….

Great shot! Here in Australia, I haven't seen many ostriches, although we have a lot of emus to photograph!

I'll have to get out all my last zoo shots too, I'm sure there are a lot there which would be great for the blog.

Cheers,

David

Hi Anna, what's a film camera? I think I heard about them, didn't they use them in the Civil War? Great photo! I laughed at your title, fits very well, I also know what you mean about the real job, lol, sorry but I am going to give you another award tomorrow, sorry. ;)
You are so beautiful.. : ) Hope you will be free soon and have time to post nice photos+stories.

You know, I think they really do have potential to be beautiful if it weren't for those big ugly heads.

Nice shot.

Marcinha, thank you too for visiting here, and thanks for the linking. I visited your blog and it is just amazing, your photos are so inspirational, too bad I cannot read. Thanks, Anna :)

Livingsword, thank for visit. Wow, that means you almost got attacked by the ostrich, lol. Too bad, I hope you were able to recover your camera. But what you said it is true, because it there was no fence for us, probably it would be the same. Just don't tell me you ate him after, lol. I think we have ostrich farm near by (200 km) that they raise them for that reason - however, I consider ostrich as a big pet, so not sure if I would be able to eat it, including an egg, lol. Thanks for visiting and commenting again, Anna :)

David thanks for your link, I finally can see the difference between the emu and the ostrich. For the longest time they looked the same. Thanks for your comment and visit as well, appreciated. Anna :)

Helen, you are so right. I took little video of them, it was fun to watch over and over again. BTW I saw your latest watercolor - the fall leafs, it is just beautiful. Thanks for visit and your comment. Anna :)

Hi Kathy, slowly slowly coming out, hopefully I will be able to get back soon - but then xmas is around the corner, so now that work slowed down, my blogging needs work, especially the award back log. Thanks for your comment, and the ostriches are not that flully unless the fluff themselves, lol, may be they were enjoying windy and hot afternoon. Thanks for your comments as always. Anna :)

Bob, what do you mean you don't know what the film camera is?, lol, I though you would know more about the civil war than me, lol (just kidding). Thanks about the comment about the title, it took me longer to write the title than the actual post, so now I can see it is worth it. Yeah I guess have to work still, and thanks for the award, really, and really you didn't have to do that, but I take it because it is not pink this time, lol. Thanks for your comments as always, Anna :)

Oswegen, the funny thing I have many ostrich head shots. I find them having character and sometimes very funny, but then it is all personal. Thanks for your visit and comments as always. Anna :)

Hi Max, so let me type again what I lost. I think you may be right about mating, and I hope he or she was warming up to my hobby and not me, lol. They are really cool to watch when they fluff like that. BTW so you forgot the follow up, I used to do that too, but now I am well trained. Thanks for visit, and btw, I liked your post today. Anna :)

Anna,

LOL LOL LOL yes, let's hope so, cause nowadays things are so modern that she could've been warming up for you *nodding*.

I don't usually forget, but I got distracted yesterday *nodding*.

Thank you, dear :).

Cheers
A movie star photo, Anna.:D I looove how you capture creature personalities. Have never seen anything like it.

For whatever reason, he's fluffed! I guess he's just showing off. Good to be a proud bird! :-)

He is quite something! I have not seen too many, but don't remember those bright white feathers.

I'll stick to the turkey for Thanksgiving. I never ate Ostrich, but they do serve Emu burgers at the county fair here and they are unusual, to be polite. I have heard that the eggs are quite good, though.

Thanks JJ, yes it was a movie star, and there were two in fact and both of them enjoyed being photographed and filmed, or may be they thought the camera's were a treat, because they were getting close. Thanks for visit as always, Anna :)

Lynda that is new one, I guess you can say that he/she was showing off and being proud. Thanks for your comment and visit as always. Anna :)

Hey Will when I was posting this photo, I was actually thinking about you, I was hoping you had a good laugh same as with the kudu cow, and of course I was hoping your shoulder is now all in tact. I will try different foods, as long they are not moving, but sometimes I think twice, everytime I look at the ostrich I think off big pet, so not sure if I will be able to enjoy it, including eggs. Funny it does not bother me with other birds, like chickens, turkeys, lol. Anna :)
