A Bit of Knowledge: Winter Photo When Sky Meets the Ground

The only downside of winter photography is the cold temperatures. In extreme cold weather, the SLR camera sometimes stops responding. One issue is that electronics usually misbehave in cold weather. I know that because it happens to my car all the time. Every time there is a drastic temperature change, I get errors, including false alarms like engine failure. Secondly, in the cold weather, metal parts shrink, so it is possible there is a lost connection somewhere in the camera. There is no need to panic because it is a very common camera response to temperature changes.

Well, I malfunction as well in the extreme cold temperatures.

Back to creativity mode. Winter photography can be very rewarding. About 3 years ago, I captured a few photos of the evergreen trees in the field covered with snow. It was a cloudy day, and the sky was quite white. After reviewing photos, I found that when the sky met the ground, the trees looked like they were floating in the air. I almost got the floating trees. Another way to get the same effect is to position the camera towards the trees and low enough to capture the snowy field only as a background.
