Facts About Cedar Waxwing [Bombycilla cedrorum]
It is interesting to know that the name waxwing is not due to their slick appearance, but comes from the waxy red secretions found on the tips of the secondaries. The function of these tips is not yet known, but they may help to attract mates. Also, the Cedar Waxwing is one of the few North American birds which can survive for several months on fruit alone.
Geographical Location: Fairy Lake, Newmarket, Ontario, Canada [44°3'2"N 79°27'3"W].

Have you heard from Bob, over at Blackholes? He hasn't been around for a while. Hope everything is all right with him and his family. I will keep them in my prayers.

This fact about wax is really rare,I think.
I never heard about something like this in this kind of bird.
Sorry I haven't been around in while getting my butt kicked at work hauling water and it has been hot around here. Thanks for asking if I am OK Anna! Your a awesome person and more importantly a awesome photographer! :D
My prayers are with Bob too, not sure what is going on. Hopefully he will come back and let us know that he is fine. Thanks for your concerns. Anna :)
This is a mgnificent shot of a beautiufl species. I've seen the boehmian waxing (European one), but never met the cedar. It is as beautiful as its European counterpart!
You are soooo talented. I love viewing your blog!!!
