Digital Postcard Series: Sea Monsters, Scilla, Italy

Digital Postcard #0002 (Photo no longer exists)

Facts About the Scilla Town

Scilla is a charming little town in Italy once destroyed by an earthquake in 1908. It is also the traditional site of the sea monster Scylla of Greek mythology. The rocks of Scylla are described in ancient poems [Homer's Odyssey] as a danger to shipping.

Geographical Location: Scilla, Calabria, Italy [38°15'0"N 15°43'0"E] lies in front of the Strait of Messina, a narrow section of water between the eastern tip of Sicily and the southern tip of Calabria in the south Italy. Archived photo from my travel gallery - Italy, September 2006.

Hi Anna. You are a truly gifted photographer. Great work. What is your main camera?

Nice shot. I also like the way you did the lettering. The photo makes the water look harmless enough, but it is best not to take a chance and everyone knows you can't see sea monsters until it is too late!

That's a beautiful composition Anna. The color of the water adds to this overall sea monsterish effect.

Amazing photo, the blue ocean has wonderful depth of color.

When I lived in Laguna Beach, one of the streets I traveled ended at the Pacific Ocean and the first time I drove it I was sure I saw a Whale. When I saw the same Whale in the same spot the next day I figured out it was a rock formation! but to me it will always be a lovely Whale.
myonlyphoto said…
Thanks Medam. And you know it was taken with point and shoot camera. The light on the sea is always good and generates excellent results. Anna :)

Thanks angryparsnip for sharing your whale story, that is nice to remember things like that. Thanks for sharing again, appreciated. Anna :)
