A Dancing Flamingo

We are having a winter storm in effect, so I thought I would continue with spring- or summer-like spirit blog posts. Officially, we have about 1.5-meter snow piles around the house, which resulted from cleaning our driveway alone (a single-car driveway that includes a sidewalk). Last night alone, we had 30–50 cm of snow fall. It looks like a winter wonderland now, and I am hoping that some of my small bushes will survive because I cannot see them at all.

Well, what I have today for you is a flamingo photo taken at the Toronto Zoo in 2004. As the title states, this was one interesting flamingo—a 'dancing flamingo'. I took a video, but I cannot find it. However, I remember that, for some reason, this flamingo was going in a circle. Never know; maybe that was a mating dance.
I know this is an old photo, but I always enjoy going back to my archives and remembering the events or our trips. Usually all my photos have a story behind them, even if it is a small and insignificant moment. As time passes and I take more photos, I am afraid that I will not remember what happened. This blog encourages me to dig up some of the past photos and remember good times, and I am glad that I can also share them with you.

Hey Anna,

Thank you so much, for sharing the dancing flamingo with us ;D!

Whoah, winter is hitting you hard, eh? 30-50cm of snow is a bit too much, isn't it?

Back to the dancing: perhaps the flamingo is a he; he was dancing to his lady lol! He was getting down for her so that she would give him love LOL LOL.
Animals are so cute :)!

The photo is amazing, darling: congratulations :D!

Cheers

Thanks David, me and you, may be the power of human will bring the spring back faster, lol. Thanks for stopping by...Anna :)

Hi Max, yes a bit too much snow, believe or not there may be one more, hope not the same magnitude, lol. Well the weather was really nice for shoveling, so on the end we had some fun, lol. Big piles of snow are not even thinking to melt, lol.

Max you said: 'perhaps the flamingo is a he; he was dancing to his lady lol! He was getting down for her so that she would give him love LOL LOL.
Animals are so cute :)!' - hey your probably right, or may be he was dancing to my camera, or me, lol. I don't remember if I was wearing any vibrant colored clothing that day, lol.

Max thank you so much for your kind comments, and putting smile on my face. Anna :)

"Pretty in Pink!" But what a funny looking face!

The middle of March and all that snow? Those northern latitudes have their drawbacks at times, I guess. I'm sure the winter wonderland is beautiful, but I'll take our Southern Oregon weather of the past few weeks. I have tilled the garden, planted the peas and some lettuce, started flowers and tomatoes in the greenhouse, and gazed upon all the different kinds of Narcissus and other spring-blooming plants that have recently sprung to life.

We still have a chance of frost for another 6 weeks, but the snow, at least at these lower elevations should be gone for the year. Hiking season is about to start. Yay!! You will get back at us this summer when it is 105 degrees here. I bet you don't have that kind of heat do you?
myonlyphoto said…
Thanks LS. You know I kind of like rain, send some over, lol. Yes melting will cause flooding in fact, they are already talking about it.
I don't know what it is, but I have personal addiction to snow shoveling, I usually I am on my feet first and outside if comes to snow - and you are absolutely right about shoveling safely, I never use my back to lift. No never played snow golf, lol. It would be fun looking for the golf balls, lol.
Oh and I forgot to include that washing cars happens in the summer, no body washes car here in the winter on the driveways, but they do go through the gas stations, even when it is really cold.
That must have fun, your childhood must have been great. Wish was more of this here. We are loosing lot of land to builders, mainly production houses (sad :0).
Thanks LS for your come back, I will definitely be careful. Thanks again. Anna :)
Nice and Funny at thesame time... Anna you are a blessing.

Will, yes flamingo have something different about them. I say the same about the face, may be I will do follow up post with the flamingo face shot, lol. Yes all this snow in mid March. Will I envy your weather, and all the stuff you are doing. Oh well we just have to get used to, lol. The funny thing is that the weather man said that it has nothing to do with global warming, its all normal and its all coming from you guys, lol, kidding aside, the weather patterns from US like tornadoes, etc. It is all related on the end. Yes frost can be unexpected. Hiking season can be anytime for us, I guess we just get sick of cold at times, lol. About summers, yes it can be that hot too, and the crazy part about that is that we have garden watering bans when it is extremely hot. Luckily new water stations are being build so may be little better in the next year or so, but then they are also building new houses around - all the same on the end. Everything dries so fast here. Thanks Will for all your comments. Anna :)

Great photo, flamingos always amaze me how they can stand and walk on those skinny legs.

I love going back into my archives, they are like listening to favorite old songs and never fail to put me back in time emotionally. I love that.

Lovely shot BTW. Too bad they don't run around wild in the woods around here.
I have personal addiction to snow shoveling... Are you not satisfied with all the snow you've gotten in Ontario lately? :-)

I like the dancing flamingo a lot. Of course he is a birdie too and you know I LOVE birdies. Beautiful color!

Love the colours. Apparently in some small zoos they surround flamingoes with mirrors so that they will breed (no joke! - they are communal birds and the mirrors fool them into thinking they are in a colony)!
Swubird said…
Archives, or not, it is a great picture. I always like Flamingos. They're are beautiful, majestic birds. But I wonder why every zoo on the planet makes such a big deal about them. Periodically we visit the San Diego zoo. It's a wonderful place that covers hundreds of acres with literally thousands of exotic animals on display. Guess what's right at the main entrance? You got it - Flamingos.

Another great picture and interesting post, Anna.

Happy trails.

Hi happy Bob, lol, and thanks for nice comments. Yeah that snow was hurting, I am just so dissapointed because the year I cannot shovel the snow we get a lot - lucky me (I like shoveling, just personal addiction). Oh well I had to cook for my husband, lol. Thanks again for your comment, Anna :)

Yeah I love snow, shoveling is been always my favorite part, cold no cold because moving keeps me warm, but I don't like the freezing weather so much, this is the time when I run home first. However, the year I cannot really shovel that much, we got a lot, oh well I will have to pick up next year. Thanks for visiting and commenting as always, Anna :)

I can't imagine what it would be like to live with that much snow, it is a rarity here so we love it when it comes, but we normally only get a sprinkling! Great picture of the flamingo, love the ripples in the water.

Anna, I am sure he was doing either a mating dance or staking out his territory, which are two male pursuits that are prevalent cross-species, lol...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and photos. Too bad we don't have a voice-activated recorder on our cameras for taking notes that would enter into the computer along with the photo information! So we wouldn't forget the particulars of that experience....

Hi Anna thanks for the visit and all the comments.
That is quite a bright flamingo. Ours are white and tinged with pink. We have a salt pan about 10 km's away that teams with itinerant flamingos in winter.
I have not seen them around for a few months, but I think they have gone north to the breeding sites.
Max-e said…
Btw it is terrible when it should be getting warmer, but then you have a cold snap.
Our spring starts on 1 September, but sometimes snow falls in land right up to November

Hey Lynda you may be absolutely right, lol. I like your idea better, lol. Thanks again, Anna :)

Hi Anna,

Is one snow pile constitute the size of one car?

What a beauty! Flamingoes are such precious looking animals. Years ago at the Vancouver Zoo some teenagers broke into the flamingo area and killed…I believe it was 7-8 flamingos. It is hard to imagine anybody wanting to do something like that to such wonderful creatures.

Very nice Anna…..
myonlyphoto said…
Thanks Livinsword for commenting. If one snow pile constitute the size of one car, than we have about 4 piles of Honda Civics, lol. Sad story about the Vancouver Zoo flamingos, I will never understand why some teenagers can be like that. Graffiti is the big issue we are having here, again, I don't understand. Thanks for your comment again, Anna :)
