The busy life behind blogging is definitely a factor in not posting more frequently, and I have to admit some 'relax and smell the flowers' factor as well. But there will be more. Stay put. Oh, and don't you worry, everything is fine; I am not going anywhere. In the mean time, enjoy my recent photo; this is what I am waiting for—the spring.
Also, a few of you had questions about adding a watermark to your photo, so I am including this information in this post. The benefit of watermarks is that you took that beautiful image; it is yours, so put your name on it. Okay, this is not really a benefit, more like a command, but it is true—it is yours. There will always be someone skilled who will take your photo (but good luck finding them on the Internet among billions of sites) and will crop your watermark out anyway, but there are still many of us that don't really know what to do.
There are two options: You can create a logo and place it in the middle of the photo. I find that this method is used more by professional photographers, and a good example is Kathy's blog, Photography by KML. However, if you just want something simple, suppose your blog name, then explore the instructions below, unfortunately for now only for Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements users. To avoid copying my images, I also make them smaller, so they are only good to an extent.
So, there are other useful tools that can let you add a watermark or text to the photo. As per my original post, Powerful Niagara Falls and Something Useful, this online tool can add text to the images, and you can visit Bob's Blackholes and Astrostuff blog for amazing Moon and Sun water reflection images that he has created using this tool. GIMP, a free offline program that can be installed on your computer, was recommended to me by Roger from Idaho Daily Photo and can do the same wonders as Photoshop. If you want some laughs and to see his creations using GIMP, visit Roger. (UPDATE: Roger is gone from blogosphere).
Just to give you a heads up, I will probably set up another blog (resource folder) to provide information such as that. You may say, "Oh no, not another blog." However, I am not planning to use it for socializing but more for providing information. I just don't want to mix my photo experiences with technical information. So don't worry; I don't expect you to go and comment as you do here. Let me know what you think, though. I think knowledge sharing is very important, and I always enjoyed that part. It only makes us all better, and I tell you, it saves time too if many of you ask the same question.
The following are instructions on how to create a simple text watermark for those who don't know and for those who have Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, so if you don't fall under those categories, don't waste your time and have fun doing something else. The process is simple, so don't get scared by the amount of writing here.
After you have cropped your photo and the photo is ready for publishing, all you have to do is add Text, for example, Copyright My Only Photo. To do that, look for the vertical Ribbon bar on your left (2 columns of icons), scroll over, and find the button with a T. If you click once on that button and hover over it, it will say horizontal type tool (another way to click T to activate). Once clicked on, click on your photo and start typing. A new type (text) layer will be created. Once finished, go to the Move Tool (click V), the right button on the top of the Ribbon bar, and move your text where desired. If it is not moving, then go to your Layers (click F7) window on the left and ensure that the text is selected (hi-lighted). Note that when the T icon is activated, on the top you will see a menu where you can change the font type, size, alignment, and colour of the text. In order to make changes to the text, you need to first highlight it and then change the characteristics.
If you are happy with your watermark, then you need to save your file. The photo now has two layers, and Photoshop will try to save it with the Photoshop file extension, PSD. So firstly, yes, save as a Photoshop file so you can copy a fully formated watermark in the future. Then save again. Go to File > Save As and save as JPEG (select it in the Format drop-down menu). It will ask you for JPEG quality; level 10 is quite acceptable; the higher you go, the larger the file size.
So you are ready to publish your photo. Remember, only put a watermark on your photos or creations; now someone else's.
Now, instructions on how to copy the watermark from the original to the new photo image.
First, open the original PSD file with the watermark, then open a new photo file. Again, select the original PSD file, go to Layers (click F7), select the watermark layer, hold and drag over the new photo image (don't let go unless you are over the new photo image, and you will see a box over the perimeter of the image), then let go and breathe again. To ensure a smooth copy, place the two open files side by side (just manually size them up). Now, once the new layer shows on the new photo, select the Move Tool (click V), move where desired, and save as a JPEG.

I understand what you're saying, and I think it is great to step back and refocus periodically.
It helps one recognize what is truly important in life.
I'm waiting for the spring too, and it already started a little. I love your photo it's beautiful. About the watermark, I don't care that much, a few people asked me to use some of my pictures. Why not??? I was very pleased that they like them, but I suppose some other people don't ask.
Have a nice day.
And very useful information for bloggers who post their own shots. Bravo!
And i love the flower shot.Hope spring will be here soon.
You will be even busier when you start your new resource blog!
Maybe we can even have a community blog that everyone adds to when they come up with an insight or new idea related to blogging or photography, etc.?
Thank you Anna, for being you, and for the support you give others, including me. :)
Wow, what an informative post! Plus, your blog is so great looking.
I haven't personally used GIMP, but I've heard that it's an excellent free graphics program. I tried to download it once on my old PC and somehow it got corrupted in the process and I could never manage to use it. Since I purchased my iMac I haven't attempted to download anything from the web.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know what a nice blog you have.
Great photo you made here I love nature photography, and YES I am waiting to use my macro lenses more, with outcoming /blossom of flowers!!
This is so very good that you took the time to write for others-readers "how to add a nam/watermark" on their photo's , however.... several times 'people' asked me NOT to write my name in the middle of the photo , but on the side, or top or bottom, (why? would they like to copy mine?)
anyway, I already cropped (make the photo's smaller)on the smallest size (JPEG) on 2, this is also has a safety reason, for me thoug.
Well thanks for commenting at my blog, I like you blog too, do you mind that add a link of your blog on mine?
have a nice and creative day!
There is also another free image program available at:
http://www.irfanview.com/
If anyone is interested, it's worth a look. It has some conditions but I like it.
Regards
Peter
So, you are waiting for Spring, huh? Spring is already here, in Portugal: the flowers are already blossoming, the trees are beginning to grow leafs, the smell is different already....Mmmm....I love Spring-time :)!
BTW gorgeous photo: what kind of flower is it?
Now, you asked our opinion on your new blog: you have my total support :D!!! I think it is a brilliant idea!!!
Darling, I am impressed: you explain these things so well: congratulations!
Once you set up your new blog, I will come by to read your tips; and who knows you might even inspire me to learn how to take pics :D!
Cheers
I never thanked you for the above tip, it is much useful; plus, I had been asking myself how some bloggers managed to hyperlink post titles: thank you :D!
Cheers
Really good article on watermarks. It always has been a trouble for me to add something on my pics. I've always wonder if I had to add one or not. For now I can't imagine something on my pics, so I only digital sign each picture. It is like a watermarks but totally invisible. And another bad point for me, I've always put excellent quality jpg. I don't like to see any artefacts of compression.
The other good point of watermarks is that the picture refers to you when it has been found on a web engine.
I like very much your new banner! I understand what you mean by having no time for bloging. And I'm so waiting for spring to come, I need natural light for my pictures!
Take care,
David
Joann, sorry I did not asked you about linking to your blog, I just added since I knew I was going to visit yours. However, did not wanted bother you with exchange, by all means you can link to me, it is appreciated. Thanks again, Anna :)
Very interesting topic….
We have a Creative Commons License on our blogs yet we recognize that there are those that just don’t care.
We considered putting watermarks, etc, on the images but have settled with the idea that the images posted are actually free for all, we request they ask for permission, not change the image, and give a creditable link to our blog(‘s) (and do it for non-profit). Of course there are many who will not do this.
We have had people use our images for their pages and they followed the rules….and we have received many visits thru their sites because of this. I have actually done this with others myself. I have seen an image on another page and asked for permission, received it and actually have developed some good blogging friendships that way.
Of course there are more intrusive systems one may use to monitor these kinds of things.
The images we post are not those of the highest quality they are smaller images etc…
It’s like anything else on the web; personal information, written material, images; it is “risky” to share them, but “better to have played and lost than never to have played at all”.
I have a lot of respect for those who develop open source computer code, participate in wiki programs such as Wikipedia and other open sharing “community” pages…. At the same time I totally respect people trying to establish protection for their personal creations.
As Chocolate Girl is posting another series of photos on Thursday this was topical for us :)
I was so caught up ion the conversation that I forgot to say “great photo Anna” simply lovely…
I realized I could create a simplified overwrite using the clear alphabet on Paint for related uses.
"don't make me jealous, I can just see your spring - one word - beautiful. Oh and smells good too - now that is tempting, lol." - ok, I won't. I will stop :D...
"Spring time is nice, new life for me, and where changes can take place." - absolutely, girl!!! :) and it also means love or the renewal of love :D! Have you ever noticed that in Spring time people seem more love-goofy? The hormones of the youngsters become more active lol...
"Thanks for the comment on the photograph - you know I did not do my homework, so honestly, I don't know what the plant it is. I will let you know when I find out." - it is quite all right, thanks :).
"Thanks for the support on my new resource blog, and thanks for your comments - that stuff comes from my experience in technical writing, which is a bit boring, so I am going to see if I can come up with entertaining style of writing for instructions. This one was quick one, hope I did not confuse anyone, but I think it has bits and pieces that will help to explore. Also, I have this idea not to write step by step detail instructions too, so when users are reading, they can also figure things out themselves, that way they can learn too, and probably remember better. I never took any courses if comes to software, and I find it that I actually learn faster." - I don't think you have confused anyone, Anna, nope. It was quite clear, my friend :). I can't wait to read your academic-blog :D. I never took any course either; I always learn software stuff by myself (and it is funny, one does indeed learn faster..you are right)!
"About your last comment pertaining to hyperlink post titles, let me look into, I think it is feature in the blogger settings when creating or editing posts. But there are disadvantages to it, I will get back to you later, let me investigate. Thanks Max again, Anna :)" - All right, please do, cause I have been wanting to learn about it for so long....let me know when you're ready then :).
Cheers
I hope the weather we just had doesn't come your way. Temps dipped from 40 to 7 in two hours and the rain turned to ice and then it snowed.
I know you're busy but you know we're thinking about you, even then. :D

I like the way you have tech ideas along with your photos - it's well rounded and gives great tips and info. You're using them in your photo processing, so I think it is right that you have included them in your posts.
I hear you on the time issue. I have so many things going now, that I cannot put the time into my blog the way I used to either. I figure a couple of posts a week, and visiting once a week will have to do for now. Hopefully it will change again - I do enjoy it so!
Take care, Anna - you're in my thoughts!
Kathy
An inner beauty, Anna captured the external beauty!
This is another post of yours with useful information, this time on watermark. Although I haven’t thought about it so far, it is good to know some things in advance. :-)
I've got another question for you - what flowers are those in the stunning blog header, with the frost crystals around them?
I'll be sure to check out your new site as well. I have close to 20 years experience with Photoshop so I might be able to lend some input if you want. If not I understand.
Your photo makes me yearn for spring :-)I am soooo tired of winter.

I called to say thank you for you visit today... So Thank you...
I need more time than I have got right now to check your out, but from what I've seen I like it here... I'll be back really soon.
Tom
get plenty of rain in England - we've been soaked to the skin on a couple of visits to Chartwell! Hence the green...!
Need to check out a basic program for watermark, as am just starting to use a camera with higher res.
As much as I enjoy all the seasons, I have been thinking about spring recently also. As you can see from may last two posts, Mother Nature has recently been having some fun with us spoiled residents of Southern Oregon!

It seems like Max’s comments are starting to grow in length here also! She is a blogging machine, the Maximus…
;)
Hopefully I understood what you asked. If you want to add link to your Post Title to someone else's post, first you need to check if you have this option available where you create your post. So go to create new post, and under your title you should have additional option called Link with text box, where you add any type of links. If you don't have that option then go to Tab called Settings (click), on the second line select Formatting, scroll down until you find option called Show Link fields, select Yes. Under there will be explanation 'Adds the option to include a related URL and podcasting enclosure links with each of your posts.'. Ensure to Save Settings before exiting. Go back to your create post, and under your title you should now have the option called Link. So next time when you create new post you can add link in this field. When published, then when you click on your title it will go to the external link. Max, I am hoping that this was your question.
Well the downside of this option is that if you ever want to give someone link to this specific post of yours, I really don't know how to extract that, because as now by clicking on the title the address bar displays address to this post, and with the title linking to the external post, how will you know what is the link of your post. May be someone else has the answer.
BTW I found this link for adding links on the bottom of your post, but need some template editing. If you brave go for it, I probably will try to do that eventually. Max let me know if you need anything else, and here is the link: http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42051. Have fun, Anna :)
When will it start?
with three blogs to maintain you really are burning the candle at "three ends". take care.
It's me, JB! I am back on the computer....mom and daddy Len came home......finally.
Thanks for reading all my recent posts and you nice comments again.
I LOVE the flower picture you post here. This is the time of year that my mom always waits for, when the weather starts warming up slowly and then she can go outside soon and start planting flowers!
We are behind on our blogs, so gotta run.
Have a good Sunday!

You are most welcome, darling *bowing*!
No, darling, don't worry...you see, I am a very patient person: I could've waited longer :D!
Thank you so much for your explanation, Anna; but actually I wasn't asking about that (if you take a look at my posts, their title are already hyperlinked); I was asking how do we hyperlink a title (any title) in the comment section (I am so sorry, I didn't express myself properly). For example, whenever I wish to tag you, I come to your blog and I leave you the link, right? But I have noticed that some bloggers leave the linked title (Example: instead of "http://maxicouti.blogspot.com/2008-entangled" they leave "Entangled" hyperlinked).
"Well the downside of this option is that if you ever want to give someone link to this specific post of yours, I really don't know how to extract that, because as now by clicking on the title the address bar displays address to this post, and with the title linking to the external post, how will you know what is the link of your post. May be someone else has the answer." - it is ok, I will keep asking lol. Thank you for actually taking the time thinking about my inquiry :D! You are a dear :)...
Thank you so much!!!! I will let you know if I need anything else, Anna *bowing*! This tip is interesting...thanks :D!
Should I start calling you Prof. Anna :)?
Cheers
Oh now I know what you mean, so when you go to comment again on my blog, just above the comment box Leave your Comment, I left a quick message that explains how to insert the named hyperlink inside the comment box. Hope this helps. Take care Max, and not to worry, may be someone else will have that same question, so I am prepared for the future. Thanks. Anna :)
"I don't think I know enough to be a professor yet." - a professor never does, until he/she starts teaching :D! Did you know that one of the many ways of learning is to teach?
"I like to learn new things, and I like to share them too. I do that a lot with my hobby, we always exchange knowledge, and sometimes we don't agree as we are both engineers, figure, lol." - LOL you two must be a really interesting couple :D!
"so when you go to comment again on my blog, just above the comment box Leave your Comment, I left a quick message that explains how to insert the named hyperlink inside the comment box. Hope this helps." - Thank you, I already took the link, now I just have to test it...I will let you know! Thank you so much *bowing*!
"Take care Max, and not to worry, may be someone else will have that same question, so I am prepared for the future. Thanks. Anna :)" - You are most welcome :D!
Take care, darling!

Glad that I was able to help, and thanks for the tag, I will check it out later. Anna :)
"thanks for your always insightful comments - and in that case, for now I am an assistant professor, lol." - no need to thank me, dear Prof. Anna :D
"Yes we are interesting couple, and we love it, lol, sometimes crazy, but that is life is all about, being crazy, having fun, smiling during happy times, crying during sad times." - oooh, that is so sweet :)! You are absolutely right: life is a big package (pain included)!
"thanks for the tag, I will check it out later. Anna :) " - You are welcome, I just thought it to have your name all over it :D!
Cheers
Julie at Virtual Voyage gave me the link to your blog.
I came here because I was looking for information about adding a watermark to photos. I understand that you were looking for the name of the flower you photographed. It looks like a red poppy flower bud.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about watermarks!
Very lengthy and informative post on how to watermark your photos. This is too long for me though.
