Chasing Bumblebees in the Clover Wonderland - My Backyard

It's all about time now for me; therefore, I started to photo shoot insects—yes, small creatures that are everywhere, probably one sitting on your shoulder somewhere or hiding in the folds of your dark shirt.

Kidding aside, I am telling you that my backyard is abundant with insects; you just have to look carefully. Especially in the evening, all the creatures wonder towards the kitchen light but only make it to the sliding glass door. So a few days ago, I decided to leave Matthew sleeping in his bed and have his dad watch over him. I took my camera and went to the backyard. First, the scent was unbelievable, and it all came from white clover flowers. Yes, our grass got invaded by clover, but guess what? It is more durable, does not grow tall, and does not need to be watered because roots are deep and leaves cover the ground, keeping the soil moist. Clover is almost like a weed, but now it is a weed we appreciate.
I have decided to chase this one bumblebee and try to photograph it. I wanted to get some photos of a bumblebee in motion. No success this time. I was playing with Time Value Tv mode to get the bee in motion; it would work if only the bee was on the sun all the time. However, success or no success, I still have some decent photos that I am showcasing here.
Aside from that, Matthew is growing fast. He is over 2 months old, weighs over 15 lbs, and is 61 cm tall. He grew 10 cm. Wow. He still wants to be carried around during the day; however, the little guy likes to sleep like mommy and daddy. He is in bed by 11 p.m. and sleeps for about 4-5 hours. I think some indicators are telling us that he is starting to teethe. I'm not sure; it may be too early, but our little boy does not look like an infant anymore. Oh yeah, and he has started to hold his head up since last Wednesday. He is really growing, and someone must slow the time down for me because it is flying too fast for me.

Hello Anna,

Fantastic photos, darling! The clover flowers look so cute...this may not sound logical, but they reminded me of love! Thus I could say that your backyard is full of love :D!

Matthew is getting bigger and bigger! He is already lifting his head? Wow...
No, I don't think it is too early for teething; but I will have to confirm it with my mom....next month he will be able to drink juice and eat soup-creams already :D!
He is cuter and cuter too :D!

God bless!

Matthew has turned into a handsome young fellow overnight--such a thoughtful aspect to his face. How wonderful that he is sleeping 4 to 5 hours at a stretch. I remember those days well.

And such awesome bumblebee photos!

Max dear, this is nice analogy about the clover. You know when I was photographing the bumble bee in the clover field, for some reason it kept reminding me myself sitting in the chair and feeding Matthew, strange, lol. Yes he is getting bigger, and so observant. Wants to sit up all the time and just look at things. I started to read a book for him, and he actually pays attention.

Thanks Max for your lovely comment, as always appreciated. Matthew sends love your way.

Anna :)

BTW I visited your blog yesterday, but not done reading yet, lol. I will be back.

Time? LOL! Just wait until you need to start driving him around to all his activities. He is a beautiful baby. Keep posting photos of him.

Funny my latest post has a photo of a wasp on my lettuce. Guess the theme is stinging insects this week!

Hi! Clover is one of my pet hates and I go about all summer trying to get rid of the stuff. Yes, it has nice flowers but it is very invasive. Well, that's my gardening tip for today! Any four leaf clovers out there? They bring you luck!

Take Care,
Peter

Oops! In my enthusiasm for gardening, I forgot to ask, "What sport will Matthew be playing?"

All the best to the both of you and of course, dear old dad as well! - Peter
Anna, what a DELIGHTFUL post!!! Love the clover shots and Matthew has grown by leaps and bounds. What fun you are having being a mother. :D I think teething normally starts at 4 months but some babies may cut incisors early. WOOT that Matthew is holding his head up. How precious!

I'm glad you are finding a minute or two to go outside. You are at such a beautiful time of your life. :D

Hugs, JJ

Your little guy is absolutely precious, Anna! What a beautiful face!!!!!!

I love the shots of the clover. I've had a friend or two decide to switch over from a lawn to clover and been very happy. Looks like you did it without even knowing you were doing it.

Nice pictures Anna. It's so difficult to capture macros, especially with the wind and insects flying away. Do you have a trick?

And teeth already? Wow, so fast.

You must be spending lots of time now with little Matthew and I don't blame you. Enjoy. The times goes so quickly... just as the bumblebees will soon be packing for winter.

The bumblebee photos are inspiring. Thanks for the art you share.

Hi Anna, you have so much in this post. Nice to see Matthew's progress. These little guys are such a blessing.
Your photos of the birds and the bees are great.
As regards your query about water melon skins let ne enlighten you :)
In South Africa we make a jam or a preserve, from water melon skins - sometimes plain other times mixed with ginger. It is delicious. I do not know if you are into jam making, but if you are interested, I think I still have the recipe somewhere. I have made tons of the stuff over the years.
And one other use - cut the water melon in half, remove the pulp and voila you have a ready made hat. Many of our local exhibitionist supporters can be seen wearing these at cricket matches
myonlyphoto said…
Thanks Max-e, that will be cool to have the recipe for watermelon skin, however, here in Canada, we all worry about all the spraying going on that is probably mostly concentrated in the skin. We avoid skins, I have to skinn-off everything. Not like in the old days, used to eat everything with the skin. Thanks again for you kind comment, always appreciated. Anna :)
