Oh my, I didn't even realize that it had been a while since my last post. I am telling you, the time just passes by really fast. Matthew will be one year old on May 7th. We already celebrated the first round of his birthday last weekend with my husband's family. Next weekend, it will be my side of the family. We had to split up; otherwise, everyone would just feel like a sardine at our small home.
I want to cook and bake it all myself. Speaking of making stuff, when Matthew was born, I said I would do stuff for him myself—cook, bake, and take care of him 24/7. I am not going back to work until he is ready for school or when he has had enough of me.
As the title states, a picture is worth a thousand words. I've always been a big fan of recording information, or more so, events in my life—things I did, places I travelled, things I cooked, things I baked, and things I made myself. The neat thing about the camera is that I don't have to write things down that much anymore. Conveniently, it has a time stamp, which I often forget to set. However, let me give you a few examples. When I hiked last year, I would take photos of the starting point, then the midpoint, and the end. Of course, I would take my nicest photos in between. When I cook, I take photos of my prepared dishes. When I do bake, I take photos of my cakes and cookies. When I host a party, I take photos of vegetable or fruit arrangements, and yes, I don't forget to take photos of the guests as well. Another thing I did was photograph five plastic containers of stuff I have—my treasures collected over the years. Since sometimes I like to dig some stuff out, I have to go through all the containers because, for the life of me, I just don't remember where things are. So what I did was photograph all my articles and index them by container. Now I don't have to look inside; I just look into folders on my computer and find what I need to look at again. In this post, I have a few examples of what I prepared for Matthew's birthday last weekend. I made him a mousse cheesecake. It may not look great because I still need to practice cake decoration, but it sure tasted great. Very light, mango-flavoured, with a layer of chocolate cake. Unfortunately, the chocolate cake was supposed to be a 3-layer cake, but because I didn't beat it well, I ended up with a 1/2-inch-thick, hard cookie. This reminded me of the 7-layer cake baked flat as a pancake by Fred from the I Love Lucy show. The other two photos show my fruit arrangements, one with strawberries and the other with cantaloupe balls. Unfortunately, again, I do need practice making melon balls. I was very disappointed when I was getting half balls only. If you're wondering what the green leaves are, it's kale. It is an excellent leaf for decorating fruit arrangements.
My last comment is that taking photos with a digital camera costs me almost nothing.

How time flys when your a parent! Now, where do I mail the kangaroo to?
Take Care,
Peter
I have to chuckle when you mention how you photograph your stuff and then look at it on the computer. It is such a great idea when there is little room for displaying everything. I wish I had thought of it years ago before I packed it all up.
Hope Matthew enjoys all his birthday celebrations - we used to do the same thing when the kids were younger.
Take care of you too and don't over do. Have fun!!
Kathy
Happy Birthday to sweet little Matthew. What lovelies you made and ate. And how sweet that he will have your record of it digitally to look back on one day.
Oh my God, I just emailed you...and here you are, sharing Matthew's b-day with us.
What a delicious cake!!! It does look good, don't worry...
Aaah, you have been busy, missy!! Those strawberries w/chocolate look delicious!!
Melon balls do take practice, but you will manage next time, I am sure :D! (the secret is in the wrist - and the way you apply the force, know what I mean?)
Anyway, girl...have loads of fun!!!!! And give lots of kisses to Matthew :D!
Cheers
Happy BIrthday to you!
Happy Birthday, dear Matthew!
Happy birthday to you!!!
Clapping hands!!!
Great post, Anna. Looove the pics. I would have made it here on the 7th if that boomer of a thunderstorm hadn't passed over. But I'm here now.
Wild wave!
Hugs, JJ/Nancy J
Happy First Birthday to Matthew! Needless to say I don't have to mention that these are the best times and its heartwarming to see you cherish them well:-) Before you know it he will be 19 years old and you'll be wondering where the time went.
AND....it's a good thing you have a digital camera. Film and processing would be very expensive :-)and scanning the images so you could share them with us would be very time consuming (been there!)Your fruit arrangements look amazing. What a ton of work.
Oh, tell your husband to take Matthew out today so that they can get you a Mother's Day present, or at the very least I'm sure your husband can coax Matthew into drawing you a Mother's Day card with a fine set of crayons :-)
Take care Anna.

Oh my gosh! I wish you were my mommy. I'd probably weigh a lot more, but I'd always have a big smile on my face. Yummy, yummy. Just seeing those pictures, all beautiful in their own right, makes my lips smack. And your obsession with recording everything in your life. Just think of how wonderful those notes, journals and pictures will be when your son is thirty-five. He'll love it. If I would have kept records like that, even more pictures, I'd have a million stories to write.
You are really something--a truly wonderful mommy.
Happy trails.
I'm ok, how are you? I've been away from the blogging world for a while because it took some time to get th internett up and running in at my new place.
I love the fruit arrangements, the strawberry looks yummy!
xoxo

One year already, time flies.
The strawberry season is almost in, I think it will be fun to have Matthew pick them too. As a matter of fact he started to walk on Mother's Day.
I know what you mean about not overdoing, and I think I did. I am putting my cook books for the summer, and getting hands on the camera again.
Thanks for all Kathy.
Anna :)
JD, boy I know all about scanning, never again. I scanned thousands of family pictures in the past, and I repeat again it is very time consuming as you said too. I absolutely adore the digital technology, lol.
It was tons of work with all the preparation, and you probably noticed, as I been absent from blogging for a while, lol. And thanks to digital technology, I got home made card too, lol, for Mother's day - these are the best ones too. BTW Matthew know how to handle pen very well, and already was able to scribble in my recipe book, I guess it is time for crayons and his own notebook, lol.
JD I will be visiting your shortly, however, I been over couple of times, but for some reason I wasn't able to comment. I will see if works later.
Anna :)
You said: 'Just think of how wonderful those notes, journals and pictures will be when your son is thirty-five. He'll love it. If I would have kept records like that, even more pictures, I'd have a million stories to write.' - right right, boy thirty-five, that will make me 72, hopefully I will be able to push the keyboard keys then, lol.
Swubird my friend thank you so much for your lovely comment and the happy trails.
Anna :)
Thanks again, Anna :)
You are most welcome, darling :D!
Watermelons also result in very good balls, true! :D
I see you in my blog then :D!

Pozdrawiam.
Anna :)
I saw you on JD's blog and came over and here is your post about his birthday!
He is gorgeous and sweet and huggable and what a birthday splendor you have given him! (He'll forgive you about the cake. ALL my cakes and cookies turn out to be bricks. I could open a masonry business with them. So you're not alone...)
I DO remember that Lucy episode. I used to watch when our daughter was small and I was giving her her bottle in the bentwood rocking chair. She grew up loving Lucy, of course!
Your salads look delectable!
And those fruit arrangements--gorgeous!
