A Bit of Knowledge: A Blogger Template Used in My Only Photo Blog

Welcome to my 'A Bit of Knowledge' session blog post. The inspiration came from you. Yes, you bloggers. Some of you made changes to your blogs; some of you applied something new and interesting to your blogs; and some of you just wrote something that inspired me. A while ago, I received this award from Roger from Idaho Photo, and it was an ear award. No, it wasn't just a plain ear; it was the Van Gogh's Ear Award. How can an ear inspire someone? Well,  I don't know, but it did it to me. The story was cool, the idea was amazing, and the fact that I received an ear—that was just fantastic.

Thank you, Roger.
No rocket science here. To remodel my Blogger blog, I used a template from Our Blogger Templates: The Professional Template. The nice thing about this template is that very few changes to the XML code are required. I really don't like to fool around with code that much. All the presets are in Blogger under Layouts > Fonts and Colour. There is a lot of moving around, and big decisions need to be made. I suggested that you take breaks in between to absorb the changes you made and see if you like them. Note that there is one flaw with this template. For some reason, the Embedded below post setting does not work. On the other hand, thanks to Peter from St Vincent's Hospital Darlinghurst (male nurses) for helping.

Thank you Peter!

I thought you were going to make some drastic changes but it looks about the same, though I have never been a fan of 3 column or even 4 column blogs, I find people trend to put too much on their sidebars and that adds loading time... still it's a good template/design and I don't mind reading some technical stuff if I learn something from it but I am more interest in your photography

I find Blogger/Blogspot to be the easiest platform cause of the Layouts/fonts and colors feature

you tip on stepping back to take in the changes sounds like a good idea

I think your blog looks awesome! Ears to you Anna! :D

Lissa no no no drastic changes, because I still have to support the look of the older posts. You are absolutely right. I test my blog for loading and it seems okay, just not sure how is for others. However, yes you are right, we tend to load side columns too much, lol,. Thanks again for being interested in my photography, it is appreciated, oh and for the constructive criticism. Anna :)

Thanks Roger, it never hurts to have an extra ear just to hear you more, lol. Thanks again. Anna :)

Hey Peter it worked, you are the best. I gave up looking it up, thinking it will be something major to modify, but no it was so simple. Thanks again. It is now implemented and working fine. Anna :)

Anna:

I still wasn't aware that Blogger published any templates with three columms. Didn't you have to modify your code to get three?

Happy trails.

Thanks Peter for all your help and nice comment. Appreciated, and more appreciated for all you help during hard time. Hope you recover soon, and will look and feel better than ever :). Thanks again, Anna :)

Hey Swubird, where have you been, lol, I had three column template for the longest time, lol. Just kidding! The three column templates are created by others, and are easily available on other websites. All it is just xml code.
No this specific template did not require any code modification just the one provided by Peter, but that was nothing, but it required some modifications to the Colors and Fonts. Let me know if you interested, may be I can help.
The first thing is to create test blog and test your templates like that.

Hey Anna,

Congrats for your "ear" award :D!

And thank you so much for the link to the "Our Blogger Templates" - you are a peach :D!

Cheerio

Anna, I love what you did at the bottom of your page, with the lists and the beautiful bird (a gull?) with out streched wings, flying in front of the moon!

And it's a great place for labels! And for pix of Matthew, of course!

I think it looks just great, Anna! I'm thinking of switching back to basic black myself, at some point soon. Thanks for the info on the template. I didn't know Blogger had any 3-column templates that would fill the whole page.

I'm glad Peter helped you out with the glitch!

You'd better get your sleep, Lady! :)

As for that ear, it's quite a conversation piece!
myonlyphoto said…
Max no problem, you are peach too, lol. Never heard of that expression before, lol, sounds cute! Anna :)
myonlyphoto said…
Hey Lynda thanks for your kind comments, appreciated. Black backround for your blog would be nice too, I think you had one before, if I am not mistaken. But the color scheme you have now is nice too. You know putting together template was not that bad, but putting together the concept was the hardest part for me. Thank God I can do that in my head, lol. Thanks again, Anna :)

BTW Matthew waves hello!

Wave back to Matthew for me!

It seems babies love it when they first learn to wave hello and goodbye. :)

Anna,

I went to the link you provided, and finally I found the template of my dreams!! They don't have in black, though...so I will have to change the colour codes (it will give me a lot of work)!

Once again, thanks! :D

"Max no problem, you are peach too, lol. Never heard of that expression before, lol, sounds cute!"

Thanks lol :D! You never heard it? So this means you don't listen to Prince, eh? lol
myonlyphoto said…
Thanks Lynda. Yes they do, and he gets so excited. And today in addition to waving he learn how to clap. Been clapping since then on and off, lol. Anna :)
myonlyphoto said…
Excellent Max. However, before you hit the code, try Colors and Fonts setting. They designed templates so you don't have to edit inside the code, just the setting. Hope it helps. And unfortunately, not very much of Prince in my life, lol. Thanks again, Anna :)

Hey Anna,

I will try that, girl: thanks! :D

I want to see if I change the template over the weekend (less traffic)...there is one feature on the new template that I will need to use soon! :)

"Blog responbibly and leave a comment" LOL this was a great one!

Hi! Me again! Just curious about the new embedded below post comment section on your blog! Mind you I could be all wrong.

In blogger settings, go to "Comments". In this section look down to the Comment form placement title. Have you selected "embedded below post"?

Take Care,
Peter

Hey Peter I guess you got all my details. I am still undecided about the embedded form. Thanks again I probably will use it for my story blob blog, seems better on the white background. Anna :)

Thanks Roger, yours coming along too, I like it very much, but I am afraid to say to much because may be you changed it to something else, I know how it is. I will be over later. Anna :)

Hi Anna!

Hey the place is looking goooood!

I find it interesting that you did not choose to expand the article column….

I like the changes and love the bird-Moon image near the bottom, fantastic!
myonlyphoto said…
Thanks LS.

Yes I was thinking about expending the articles, but I was so exhausted that I gave up - I couldn't look at it anymore - the perfectionists me, sometimes never satisfied, lol, even when others are. Oh well may be next time.

So you like my moon and bird composition. It was fun editing. I miss those days when I had more time to play with photoshop, however, they are coming soon.

Thanks LS again!

Anna :)
