Life on the Edge of Grand Canyon

Are you living on the edge? Well these guys are as you see on the photo. I took this photo in 2003 when myself and my husband visited Grand Canyon National Park. The canyon is just so powerful. We did not expected to see what we saw, even pictures do not describe the feeling. When we drove into the first point, we were looking up to the sky and see what will be our first view. To our surprise, we walked about 100 meters from our car to the first point, and to our surprise again, this great view was below us. Yeah, I don't know what we were thinking then, this is a canyon and not mountains, lol. Glad that we had some winter clothes - what a change from Las Vegas, Nevada. We actually took a day trip and drove through the desert to the Grand Canyon National Park. Desert was flat, dry and once in the while some kind of life - humans, very skinny cows, cactus growing somewhere in the mid of field. Not many cars. It was good feeling, no worries, beautiful view, just us, the car and nature all around us. It took us about 4 hours through the desert. The drive was so nice and that we kind of forgot about the gas pedal, so we arrived at Grand Canyon Park around 3 pm that day and we had to rush to see at least few observation points. Guess what, going back we drove through the desert in a pitch black, now the feeling wasn't the same - more like the feeling from Jeepers Creepers 2001 movie. We also noticed that once we drove up to trail of cars, we stayed together, no body wanted to drift away, and I could see why. We arrived safely late that night, and I am here today blogging about it.

It's a cool place, I haven't been I don't think.

I'm a little freaked by heights so I'm not sure how close to the edge I could stand.

Hi Anna,

nice post! The Grand Canyon is on our travel list next year!

But I know Las Vegas very well! A fantastic place with a lot of fun! I was visiting in 1999 my Swiss friend who is living there, working for FOX-TV.

I've been to Vegas four years in a row now and I'm not sure I can take another visit.

Anna October 22, 2007 9:25 PM

max-e glad I can provide that service, lol, and you continue to photograph where you live, because I know that it is impossible to see all on my part, and with the power of blogging and Internet I probably will see it all, lol. Anna :)

Hi Susanne, make sure that you spend some time, not like me having to arrive there late. You will really enjoy it. So you know people in Fox-TV, cool. Las Vegas was fun too, but because I really like to play slot machines, my husband tries to keep me away from places such that - its like putting money down the drain he says, yeah he is right, but the drain does not have these nice matching objects or colors, lol. However, now I think like him, lol. Anna :)

Anna October 22, 2007 9:31 PM

oswegan, me too, my slot machine addiction probably would be revoked again, lol. Anna :) Thanks for second comment.

Anna October 22, 2007 9:33 PM

himalman, thanks for the visit too. I just run into this looping problem and your comment box kept opening on every click or just by itself, don't remember what in the world I did, I think I had over 15 popped so I terminated IE. I am on my way now. Anna :)

Anna,

What a smashing photo! Actually I don't live on the edge lol ;).

I can only imagine how you felt cause I haven't been there myself, but when I do I'll let you know my feelings and thoughts :).

Cheers

When I saw you nice photo, I think I should have a chance to visit the Grand Canyon.

Bob Johnson October 23, 2007 6:51 PM

Beautiful pic Anna! I know what you mean, whe we were at Mt Rushmore, is was sureallistic, couldn't put into words what you saw, Pics no matter how good they are just can't convey the feeling you have.

Anna,

I live so close and have not been to the Grand Canyon yet. Soon, I hope. It took me three years to drive over the Hoover Dam..lol. I know the Canyon is breathtaking. Did you know that there is a glass bridge for tourists to walk on out over the canyon? I don't think I could do that since I'm crazy afraid of heights.

Beautiful photo Anna! Your image has depth and that is hard to capture in most of the Grand Canyon images I have seen.

Hopefully someday I can experience that awe!

Hi Max, I live on the edge sometimes, but I ensure I wear lot of harness, lol. Sometimes I prefer to be away from the edge. The feeling is amazing, it is so gigantic. Worth seeing. Anna :)

Anna October 26, 2007 11:16 AM

digitalshuttermania, if you have a chance put this on your list, its silent architecture, but when you see it its just so big and powerful, and great for photo shoot. Anna :)

Anna October 26, 2007 11:20 AM

Hi Bob, thanks. Couple of years ago we went to Banff, and driving through mountain we felt so small. I don't think we can ever capture anything via our cameras what we really see through our eyes - what a powerful tool too have. Anna :)

Anna October 26, 2007 11:26 AM

Lisa no I did not know they have this, may be recent release. Same here too, I live so close to CN Tower, and I was only twice on it, but then it is always many people, expensive, and when you get on the top you just hope you will have good weather. We also have the glass floor on the CN Tower, I tell you it is scary. It takes few minutes to accept that you are standing on the very thick glass. There were many older people there, including my aunt. She traveled the world to get to the tower, but never even got near the glass floor. Thanks for visit and comments, Anna :)

Kathy, by all means, take your camera and go, you will not be dissapointed. I also heard that Utha is very nice. Anna :)

What a great shot. I would love to see the view from there.

Lynda Lehmann October 26, 2007 9:48 PM

Sounds like you had a nice adventure Anna, although very little time at the canyon.

We once did the same thing--drove up and got there so late in the day that after a late lunch it was time to go home!

An elk emerged from the side of the road as we were getting back into our car. I shreiked and dropped my Poland Spring bottle! He has his head down as if to charge!

To this day I regret littering at the Grand Canyon! But we felt we had to make a quick getaway!

Your photo is lovely because the figures in it makes you realize how vast the canyon is.

Anna October 30, 2007 10:26 PM

Lynda sounds like a great adventure on your part. Unfortunately, I didn't see any animals, but that is okay, grand canyon was the star of that day. Thank you for your comments, it is always good to see you coming back. Anna :)

Anna October 30, 2007 10:28 PM

channelofhealing that is why I never get close to the edge, my head would spin too. Too too dangerous, but some people are still very brave. Thanks for commenting, and seeing you here is always nice, Anna :)
